Mr. Boote has been the Head of the Math Department and a math teacher at BISB for numerous years. He has significantly advanced the math curriculum, including the teaching of the IB and IGCSE programs over the years. Outside of math, he has facilitated numerous clubs at the school as well, including the curling club and then the running club. He grew up in England and attended King’s College before pursuing his masters in mathematics at Sheffield University. Both he and his husband, Dr. Robert Ward-Penny, are departing BISB after this year and returning to the UK.
What does your future have in store?
I'm very excited. We are going back to the UK. I haven’t got a new job yet so I'm gonna take some time just to see what happens and then start fresh somewhere else. I'm willing to try anything over there. But for the time being, I am thrilled about being able to just have a break. I can travel somewhere, I can just relax. I'm gonna do some tutoring to start off with so we'll see what happens. I am also really excited to spend more time with my family and friends in the UK.
What did you enjoy about your time here at BISB?
I have numerous memories from my time here at BISB. I really enjoyed helping the school make many of their viral videos, which I had a hand in over the years. The students here were such a joy to teach as well.
What is your favorite memory from BISB?
There are too many. My favorite memories definitely come from some of the clubs that I’ve run over the years. Doing the running club was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed doing the curling club, where we won the championship. It’s really just been a pleasure all around with everything I have been able to take part in the school.
What are you going to miss about being in Boston?
I'm gonna miss the friends that I've made, especially the good friends I've made here. I'm going to miss all the kids at school as well. I'm definitely going to miss just the sun, the bright sky, and the food here as well.
Any final departing messages?
To all the kids, do your best and always try your best. You are your best resource at this school, so you must work hard. There will be challenges along the way that you will need to overcome so put in your best effort to overcome those.
In Mr. Boote, the math department is losing someone who played a significant role in building it up over time to become the robust department with the advanced math education that it offers today. We thank him for all he has provided the school and appreciate him for sitting down to speak with us. We will miss him here at BISB and wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors.
