Climate change is changing our planet at an alarming rate, with rising temperatures, extreme weather, and shifting ecosystems. But it's not too late. By switching to renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and adopting sustainable practices, we can slow its impact. The time to act is now, and every effort counts toward a more resilient future.
Transport
However, humans are going to be the main cause for the extinction of our time. Some little efforts can be made not fully stopping climate change and global warming but slowing it down immensely. One of the aspects that can be done is finding a different way of transport to get to school. 12-15% of the carbon emissions are from cars. (National Geographic. (n.d.). If at least we reduce that to 5%, this will be a massive checkpoint. Furthermore, me being a climate activist, I bike to school and am part of 11% of the population in the USA who walks or bikes to school. (Global Warming 101, 2024).
What Can We Do To Mitigate Climate Change?
Recycling is the most efficient, easiest and the most fun way to help the climate. By recycling, you are not only making your generation thrive, but the next ones as well. It can
prevent climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserve natural resources and reduce landfill waste. But what are we supposed to do? Since recycling
materials requires less energy rather than producing new materials from raw resources, like plastic, glass and paper. Plastic recycling could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30%. (A Societal Mission, n.d.). Moreover, when you exit a building, make sure to turn off the lights, this will have a huge effect on the energy conservation in the area. Since the
majority of light are made from aluminium, recycling it will save 95% of the energy rather than using double of it to produce it from raw materials. (Recycling Basics and Benefits | US EPA, 2023).
However, recycling is not the only saviour to the future of our planet. Having a plant-based diet or a low-meat diet can be a great and very easy switch alternative. All the large scale meat production requires an extreme amount of land. In particular, the average land used for a meat production farm is 5,000 to 10,000 acres of land. (Meat and Animal Feed, n.d.). Furthermore, if it is a location with a substantial amount of trees, an immense amount of trees must be cut down. This is the start of deforestation which will slowly make climate change increase. However, if people try to just eat meat one or twice a week, that will
make a huge difference. Producing beef requires 20 times more land and emits 20 times more greenhouse gases per gram of edible protein than plant-based foods. (World Resources Institute | Making Big Ideas Happen, n.d.). This shows that by switching to a vegetarian or a low meat diet, it will not only make the climate stronger, but you too.
